DID YOU HUG A TERRORIST TODAY? - MARCH 29, 2016

Israelis with children in the military are asking, since when is the life of a terrorist so precious and when did their own kids become so expendable?

Published: Tuesday, March 29, 2016 7:43 PM

Demanding peerless morality on the part of its soldiers is one thing. But requiring IDF guys to be more merciful than G-d, this is something else.

That is pretty much where we are in the case of an Israeli soldier who last week finished off a terrorist who’d been wounded after a knifing spree. The terrorist was wearing a heavy overcoat, which suggests hidden explosives. Either way, the soldier felt he had no time to “stop and frisk.”

When in doubt, take no prisoners.

Today’s handwringing in the name of morality appears to be excessive and somewhat absurd.
The soldier was handcuffed and led off to jail. Today, a military court has formally charged him with “needlessly killing” the terrorist.

Pro and con, this is the talk of the nation. To some, he’s a villain. To most, more than 80 percent, he’s a hero.

For an analysis of the situation that even precedes today’s military court action, I suggest this superb posting from Arutz Sheva’s Ari Soffer.

He uses wonderful Talmudic logic and dexterity to sort it all out.

Outsiders wonder what the fuss is all about. Soldier shoots terrorist dead– especially post-Brussels, a headline like that would be welcome in most parts of the world, mitigating circumstances be damned. In Israel it’s different. Morality counts, as it should.

But Israelis with children in the military are asking, since when is the life of a terrorist so precious and when did their own kids become so expendable? They also worry that placing a single soldier in doubt places the security of the entire nation in doubt from unreasonable second-guessing.

Another point irksome to Israelis beyond the IDF high command is the apparent joy and backslapping of the radical left whenever an Israeli soldier is put on the spot. From one incident to the next, there they are, leftists with Arab cameramen ready to take pictures in case something does not go according to the book.

In America we are especially perplexed at an IDF high command seemingly gone soft.

Are these the same Israelis who hunted down Eichmann and rescued the Entebbe hostages?

Were rules of engagement strictly adhered to or to hell with it, we win, you lose?

So today’s handwringing in the name of morality appears to be excessive and somewhat absurd.

On judging the soldier, there’s been no hesitation on the part of the leftist news media or Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon. They’ve jumped right in and found the soldier guilty even before all the evidence has been presented to the court, where, we trust, cooler heads will prevail.

In the heat of the moment a soldier has a split second to decide right from wrong, life or death.

Hesitation can be deadly.

The American military also prides itself in maintaining high moral standards. But, even under Obama, that does not stop us from droning terrorists to smithereens wherever we find them – and we don’t ask questions, either. We incinerate them in 12 different countries, mainly, at the moment, Pakistan, Somalia and Afghanistan.

This is warfare being conducted above the clouds and beneath the headlines.

Mistakes were made and continue to be made. Combatants have been eliminated, by the thousands, likewise, unfortunately, women and children.

There’ve been no investigations and no apologies. War means never saying you’re sorry.

Except, apparently, in Israel, where a military court has already taken its first step against the soldier.

But more than this one soldier’s future is at risk.

At stake is the fighting spirit of a nation.

TRUMP WON'T TANGO - MARCH 26, 2016

But Trump in the White House is Sinatra in the White House, temperamental, unpredictable, but loaded with talent and always true to his friends.

Published: Monday, March 28, 2016 8:18 AM

The question of the hour is whether Trump is presidential enough to be president. He’s too brash, too outspoken; lacks the dignity that fits the office.

Unanimously from Democrats and partly from Republicans, that’s what they say.

As someone who is ready to vote for Trump and keeps rooting for him, I have to admit that sometimes he makes it difficult. The latest flare-up between Trump and Cruz is simply cringe-worthy. Now it’s about their wives, or rather the other man’s wife. Ridiculous!

That sounds too much like yo mammaexchanges in the schoolyard, together with my daddy is bigger than your daddy.

At this rate Hillary waltzes right in. Prayers are needed that this should never happen.

So Trump may be the hand that we are dealt, and this may not be altogether bad. He’s abrasive, but he won’t be doing the tango in Argentina at a time when Americans are among the slain in Brussels. For that, watch Obama. If that’s presidential, we need the term redefined.

Whatever his shortcomings – and we do wish he’d catch his breath before the next scornful tweet – Trump is what he is.

He’s impertinent, loud, boastful, flashy, ready and able to cut down a foe with a searing quip (which he’s already done to 16 of them), but he can be counted on in a pinch, as we know from the many down on their luck who’ve benefitted from his generosity.

He can also be counted on to deliver on a promise, which we know from his success in business.

He’s outrageous. He thinks big, bold, daring. That’s what it takes to be top of the heap. He is defiantly successful. He is New York.

Trump is a New Yorker and being gruff is something only insiders understand. We get the joke. Often, toughness is a cover for warmth.

New York means “we take care of our own,” and that is Trump’s appeal. Americans (the un-dead and the un-Liberal) have been longing for this.

When Trump says he remembers 9/11 and how New Yorkers came together in a snap, he means what he says, and he means it for the entire country.

Trump would never bow to kings or emperors, as did Obama for the king of Saudi Arabia and the emperor of Japan.

Trump is a New Yorker and being gruff is something only insiders understand. We get the joke. Often, toughness is a cover for warmth.
How was that for presidential?

Trump would never snub the prime minister of Israel as Obama did at least three times.

Trump would crush BDS and the entire boycott-Israel movement if only because his Jewish grandkids will be heading for college soon enough.

Obama dreamed of a Jewish State sent packing to 1967 Auschwitz borders. Never Trump. I have it reliably that Trump would be a true friend of Israel.

Trump in the White House is Sinatra in the White House, temperamental, unpredictable, but loaded with talent and always true to his friends.

Loyalty – if that is all Trump brings, it would be enough to cover all his sins.

AFTER BRUSSELS, IS IT TIME TO DEPORT MERKEL? - MARCH 23, 2016

Madness has afflicted the leaders of Western Europe.

Published: Wednesday, March 23, 2016 10:29 AM

Authorities need look no further than Angela Merkel as the prime suspect for the latest carnage in Brussels.

More than anyone, it was Merkel who opened the floodgates to the migrants -- armies of men without women posing as refugees from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan found trampling throughout Europe. When they are caught misbehaving, they smirk and say, “I am here as a guest of Angela Merkel,” and they are correct and nearly untouchable.

Merkel stands by her open borders policy, the safety of her people be damned.

Over the past 12 months, more then a million of them have already crossed into Germany alone; 300,000 have been given asylum.

Of Brussels at this hour, all Western Europe leadership is guilty with Merkel sharing the largest part of the blame. These are her pets.

“Don’t go out unless you have to” is the hot new message circulating throughout Europe now that the “refugees” have arrived. You could get raped.

You could also get killed, and that’s what happened when the citizens of Brussels dared to go out Tuesday morning during rush hour. Scores were slain and wounded from yet another Islamic terror attack and people all over want to know how to make this stop.

We pass the point of absurdity when “open borders” imperils us all throughout the world.
Stop the influx. How’s that for an idea that needs no Einstein? Deport them instead. Maybe starting with Merkel, who invited the stampede.

The Saudis and the princes from the other Gulf States have it neatly figured out.

(So does Trump who wants to stop it and saw it coming as did this must-read thriller.)

Those titled Arabs don’t want that crowd within 100 miles even though they are fellow Muslims. But they do not want that type entering their borders, bringing with them their license to rape, their rivalries and tribal feuds, hell no, so why not Europe, and Europe says, sure, why not? Bring them on!

How clueless!

This is how. Only a few days ago, there they sat around a big table in Brussels, the smooth rulers of the EU, congratulating themselves on the capture of the final “mastermind” behind the November attack in Paris that killed 130. The French president was there, the Belgium prime minister was there and all the rest together expressed joy to the world that Salah Abdeslam had been caught.

Merkel sent in her gratitude for the superb police work.

At the moment they were hi-fiving the one success, 10,000 more “refugees” streamed in, plenty of them likewise “masterminds.”

Can no one do the math?

We pass the point of absurdity when “open borders” imperils us all throughout the world. There is no stopping the mad dash across continents.

Nor can we stop the madness that afflicts the world’s leaders.

Merkel and the rest of you clueless rulers of Europe, your misguided liberal sympathies and migrant leniencies are killing us.

Hence, Obama has chimed in his condolences for the pain in Brussels. “The entire world must unite,” he said. Yeah, sure, thanks. Will do.

Now back to the game, Mr. President.

Employing European wisdom, he wants to bring more of them into the United States. Thanks again.

Likewise Hillary and Trudeau. First the condolences followed by “we must resist Islamophobia” and keep the influx coming.

Hillary demands that we bring in 65,000 of them. Trudeau is ahead of her. He’s already got them in Canada.

It takes no prophet to know what’s coming for Canada and what’s next for the United States.

Don’t blame the terrorists, only. They are murderers but they know what they are doing.

The same cannot be said for the men and women who run our world.

ENGELHARD: TRUMP AIPAC FOLLIES--US JEWS KEEP GETTING IT WRONG - 3/20/16

Best-selling novelist and A7 columnist: Were there threats to disrupt or boycott John Kerry who sold us all down the river without a paddle?

One thing’s for sure. When it comes to politics, American Jews have no Einsteins. It’s one folly after another. We constantly get it wrong.

We keep producing great medicines but nothing to cure our political stupidity.

Yesterday (and still today) we loved FDR even though he did practically nothing to stop the trains heading to Auschwitz.

Twice at a scale of some 80 percent, we voted for Obama, even knowing what we knew, that he was no friend of Israel (or of America).

AIPAC is a friend of Israel, and that’s where we find Trump ready to speak and present his pro-Israel credentials. You would think we’d leave well enough alone, give the man his moment, but no, the Jewish Left finds him too “racist” and the Jewish Right (whatever there is of it) thinks he is not strong enough on Israel.

Maybe this, maybe that, but so what? For sure, 80 percent of American Jews will vote for Hillary anyway. So why not just shut up! Indeed, if you are searching for the American Jewish Right, people that support Israel unconditionally, you will find them all in one room there at AIPAC.

Trump is not your man regardless and your fixation on social justice, from one organization to the next, usually means all minorities except the Jews.

Why this sudden activism on Israel, pro or con? Can we some day make up our minds and get our act together?

But both the Left, for this reason, and the Right, for that reason, threaten to disrupt, boycott or stop Trump from speaking. Terrific. Just what we need!

What a way to get started with the man who may well become our next president. He is sure to remember.

We know this much for sure. This man does not forget. Ask Megyn Kelly. Okay, he is a flawed man, but his merits far outweigh his weaknesses.

Exhibit A for those who think he’s racist: When Trump opened his Palm Beach golf club Mar-a-Lago back in the 1990s he went against the prevailing bigotry that restricted Blacks and Jews at all such clubs and at the risk of being unlicensed he made sure, forcefully and emotionally, that everybody gets invited.

Exhibit B for those who think he is no friend of Israel…yes, I know about his “neutral” comment as regards Israel and the Palestinian Arabs.

But I also know he’s a man who knows how to play it close to the vest. He keeps his cards face down. He’d call it the art of the deal.

For my part, I call it gambling. Yes, every vote is a gamble. Am I 100 percent sure that Trump will be good for Israel?

No, but I’ll take my chances, and it really is not that much of a gamble considering the alternative, Hillary or any other Democrat.

That would be doomsday, speaking of which, where were we when Obama made that deadly deal with Iran, a deal that threatens Israel moment to moment?

Were there threats to disrupt or boycott John Kerry who sold us all down the river without a paddle?

I heard nothing. Individually, yes, but on the whole, silence.

Best to keep our silence again, this time for Trump. Let him speak without protest. Give him respect.
Politically, can we get something right – for once maybe?

QUIZ SHOW RABBI - IS IT KOSHER? - MARCH 18, 2016

A true rabbi is a student of the greatest rabbi, Moses.

Published: Friday, March 18, 2016 7:33 AM

Last night on Jeopardy, the popular quiz show for smart people, one of the three contestants introduced himself as a “rabbi.”

“That ain’t no rabbi,” I said to my wife who watches the show religiously. For her it’s a test to get the answers and questions right. She’s good!

For me, maybe since I can’t keep up, or maybe because men are more competitive than women (am I in trouble already?) it’s like hockey, or boxing, or worse, a blood sport. It’s about finding someone to root for, sometimes on looks alone, and picking someone to root against. That’s the fun part.

I want that person humiliated and destroyed. I want that person dragged through the mud. I want that person hanged, drawn and quartered.

I want that person floored, knocked out and stomped on.

Like this “rabbi.”

I took an immediate dislike to him because he looked like no rabbi to me.

To me a rabbi looks like the Rebbe did. Or like my father did. Or like the men who taught me Torah and Talmud from Montreal to Cincinnati. Not all had beards, but all had been ordained…granted smicha by other rabbis, none of whom, I am sure, ever appeared with Alex Trebek on Jeopardy.

Nor would a true rabbi ever appear on “The Bachelor” or “Dancing with the Stars” – which is probably what’s coming next.

From what yeshiva is my first question.
Because in a world so full of fakes anybody can wake up in the morning and declare himself rabbi. (From what yeshiva is my first question.)

That is still no reason for me to be so agitated about this contestant, a man I do not know. Does he know unclean from clean, meat from milk? This much is certain: no man goes public like that for the glory of Heaven. He is in it for himself and if he makes a fool of himself unfortunately it reflects upon all of us.

Was he even Jewish, this “rabbi?” Damage done, either way.

No man who’s the real deal would ever precede himself on a game show with that honored title, a title earned through years of toil in Torah.

A rabbi is a master of Jewish Law and Divinity and there ought to be a law against man or woman trifling a designation so treasured.

Women rabbis – that’s another problem for me but let’s leave that for another day, okay?

I tend to be old-fashioned about these things or to put it kindly in my favor – traditional. I like my rabbis traditional, though a touch of hipness is also good. The Rebbe, as I recall, steeped in Torah and mitzvot, but he still knew last night’s score between the Yankees and Red Sox.

None if this explains my annoyance when I come across a person who, like the pig, proclaims itself kosher because it has split hooves. But hides the fact that it does not chew the cud – rendering it unclean and unkosher, like the tricksters who say look at this but don’t look at that and who flourish in our midst.

Playing loose with titles can seem harmless but on the whole, deception can be deadly.

The Jewish people suffer from it every day. That’s the big picture when it comes to deceit and it is the portrait of my alarm.

I mean besides missionaries who come dressed as Jewish holy men.

For at a time when Judaism is being so misunderstood, when Israel is being so mischaracterized, do we really need more murky business? More theft?

Our enemies say our rights are their rights…our traditions are their traditions...our holy sites are their holy sites, even, they say, our Biblical heroes are their Biblical heroes. Surely and above all, they say that our land is their land. Hence, a stabbing a day and everything is justified on their behalf.

As the Land is inviolate, so ought to be the disciples of our first and greatest rabbi and teacher, Moses.

CONSERVATIVE INFIGHTING COULD HAND DEMOCRATS AN UNDESERVED VICTORY - MARCH 16, 2016

If Conservatives keep bickering, they may hand us over by default to the scofflaw Hillary Clinton.

Published: Wednesday, March 16, 2016 6:00 AM

Chalk this one up for the Liberals. They’ve ignited so much chaos at Trump’s rallies that they’ve got Conservatives fighting among themselves.

Liberals seldom fight among themselves. Mindlessly they go with the herd.

Conservatives clash. Or as Descartes would have it -- I think therefore I am a Conservative. I think therefore I am pro-America, pro-Israel.

So what’s up with the Breitbart flap as it concerns some reporters? Plenty. But first the headlines.

I’ve got a headache. I just listened to a Hillary victory speech.
Trump has taken the Florida primary and gets all 99 delegates. That’s huge. Hillary also took Florida but nobody cares. The fix is in. She is destined to win the nomination for her side because the Democrat power brokers say so and Liberals always follow the leader. They dare not dissent.

It’s a form of mind control we find in such Progressive flunkies as Juan Williams and Alan Colmes.

Republicans differ. They tend to be selective and think for themselves. This does cause dissent. But give-and-take is what Democracy is all about. Republicans are not robots and Ohio went not to Trump, but to John Kasich last night, and so for Trump the rumble has just begun.

This is good for America. Let the best man win, though outside of Trump, who?

Please let’s not argue as to whether Trump is a true Conservative. We’ve covered this already and I’ve got a headache. I just listened to a Hillary victory speech.

What they’ve got is a migraine over there at Breitbart, for some time the go-to site for Conservative news and views, political correctness be damned, which makes it a perfect fit for Trump, which is precisely where things went wrong. Editors and reporters have started leaving the online newsroom feeling that it’s too much in the bag for Trump.

If so, Ohio was not a success. Other than that, it was a good night for Trump and for Breitbart, but not for one of its reporters.

The trouble started in Florida at one of those Trump rallies. Trump was in top form, the crowd was exhilarated and peaceful – and then came the thugs.

These are the same thugs who disrupt our campuses. Yes, BDS and SJP -- and when they get bored bullying Jewish kids they find other soft spots.

They found Trump.

When they show up anything can happen, and it did. There was pushing and shoving and in the middle of it all a Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields claimed that she was pushed and shoved. Not by one of them. But by a Trump campaign manager. She expected her bosses to support her.

Instead, she claims, they supported Trump. So she quit. So did a few more staffers, notably Ben Shapiro, who’s often seen on Fox News with Megyn Kelly.

Whose side to take?

I can’t say. In fact I dare not say. Something happened. It’s like any family squabble. Wisdom says outsiders should keep out.

It’s not our business but it would be a shame to lose the clear-headed energy that’s been coming from Breitbart.

Energy is the word when it comes to the news business. Editors and reporters are in a mad dash to get it first and get it right.

Friction happens as I tell it first-hand in this newsroom thriller.
Shapiro has been a particularly strong voice for Israel and it would be a waste to lose him within Breitbart or out.

Mostly, it would be a shame if Conservatives keep bickering and in so doing hand us over by default to the scofflaw Hillary Clinton.

We can’t make the same mistake again. From Breitbart onward Conservatives need to patch things up to make amends for the past eight years.

The New York Times has already given the Breitbart dispute Front Page, so you know they are chortling and dancing in that newsroom.
Patching it up has been Trump’s latest plea, and he asked for it again last night.

Imagine John Kerry back as secretary of state and more humpy dumpty deals like the one he made for us with Iran.

Can’t have Liberals get the last laugh.

The New York Times has already given the Breitbart dispute Front Page, so you know they are chortling and dancing in that newsroom.

Every voice that advocates for America and champions for Israel is precious and must be handled with care.

WHY TRUMP AND ONLY TRUMP CAN BEAT HILLARY - MARCH 10, 2016

The others are good guys, but no one knows them.

Published: Thursday, March 10, 2016 9:45 PM

The crux of it is that Hillary Clinton is the most famous woman in America. To beat her in the general election you will need someone equally famous.

Does the name Kasich come to mind? Rubio? Cruz?

Americans don’t know these people.

They’re good guys, as good as anyone, I suppose, but they are strangers and have no shot.

You and me – we watch Fox News, occasionally CNN and MSNBC for the laughs, but our neighbors are watching “Dancing with the Stars.”

So it’s Trump and only Trump and only Trump is as well-known as Hillary the crook.

It should not be that way, I know. It should be about issues and sometimes it is, but mostly it isn’t. It’s about fame.

Anybody will do so long as that yenta doesn’t get it in.
Americans – we gravitate to fame. Maybe it’s the same all over, but in this country it’s like King Solomon said; a good name is more precious than silver and gold.

Don’t look to me for an endorsement. So this is not a pitch to Vote Trump.

This is a pitch to vote for anybody except Hillary.

Anybody will do so long as that yenta doesn’t get it in. Imagine getting up in the morning to that scold! Four years of that? Eight years?

Republicans who say they are staying home if Trump gets the nomination, your peeve, your snit may well come crashing upon all our heads.

How stupid! How selfish!

So happens that I do like Trump; liked him from the start. He’s too brash, too unscripted? That’s what I like. No teleprompter for him.

We’ve already got the perfect politician sitting in the White House – how’s that working out?

Ditto Hillary the opportunist. She’ll say anything to make a sale. Even people who vote for her do not like her. Nobody likes her. Bill doesn’t like her and what a disgrace to find a former President of the United States, instead of sitting grandly retired, there he is, from coast to coast, reduced to pimping for votes.

No wonder. She needs all the help she can get, so in this age where everybody gets a gold star, she calls it a triumph even when she loses.

The other day she lost Michigan to Bernie Sanders, the Communist Senator from Vermont. Did she give a concession speech?

No, she gave a victory speech.

The Republicans do likewise. Kasich, Cruz and Rubio keep losing and keep explaining how it is they really won.

They give victory speeches for coming in second, third and fourth.

No guys, you lost. Trump won.

To keep him going and to save us from Hillary or any Democrat in the next White House – think Hollywood.

When the studios spend millions to bring out a picture they need a big name, a star, to “open.”

To “open” means to attract moviegoers with a familiar name, like say Tom Hanks, and thus guarantee automatic box office.

Yes, Tom Hanks can open for the movies.

Donald Trump and only Donald Trump can open for the White House.
